We love the versatility of a superior-quality cotton jersey – and this classic khaki stretch cotton jersey fabric is the first of our new range. The shade of khaki green here is a soft, slightly muted colour of khaki with no harsh edge.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our khaki stretch cotton jersey fabric is a versatile medium-weight single-knit fabric. It’s a cotton fabric with 8% elastane to provide a resilient stretch-and-return of approximately 40% both down the length and across the width of the fabric. The yarn used is fine and the knit is close, providing a fabric with very good opacity for its weigh.
What does this fabric feel like?
The fine knit means that this is a smooth fabric with a soft feel. However it isn’t a floppy fabric – it has good structure and resilience.
How does this fabric move?
Our khaki stretch cotton jersey fabric isn’t a fluid knit – but it hangs and swings with character. You can see how it drapes and stretches in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
You won’t need to line a t-shirt, top or tunic; this jersey is substantial enough to cope in a single layer for most types of garment. However a skirt or dress would need a half-slip in order for it to move against the body, unless you’re wearing it over bare legs. Which as a dress, we probably would, given the laid-back nature of this fabric.
What can I make with this fabric?
Tops, tunics, dresses and even lounge trousers would all be options for this classic single-knit. It’s a fabulous base layer for casual dressing and has sufficient stretch and opacity for leggings too. We love the soft sweep of this the ‘Brasov’ Wrap Top pattern from Itch to Stitch, which recommends a cotton jersey to retain the fit and structure of the garment.
