This dusty pink stretch cotton drill fabric is a tremendously versatile cloth. It has all the practicality of a medium-weight cotton drill, but the linen-look texture that’s been woven into it, helps elevate it beyond simply utilitarian. We think the soft pink colour is perfect for summer – it’ll look fresh and cool with whites and ivories – or you can team it with softly-toned shades of blue, green or brown to make a bit more of a colour statement.
What kind of fabric is this?
This is a cotton drill fabric sitting a little towards the lighter-weight end of the medium-weight drill bracket. The weave isn’t a usual drill pattern however – it uses yarns of different thicknesses to create a deliberately ‘linen-slub’ effect, with good opacity. Although there’s a little elastane in the composition, it’s just enough to give a little ease – nothing more.
What does this fabric feel like?
Our dusty pink stretch cotton twill fabric is a refined fabric with a slightly textured feel although it’s soft and not rough. It will be perfectly comfortable next to the skin as trousers or a skirt.
How does this fabric move?
This is a fabric with an elegant structure which manages to hold a shape well, as you can see from this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Do I need to line this fabric?
Trousers or a utility skirt; even a casual coat or jacket won’t require lining, although visible seams will need to be finished well. However for more structured jackets or formal garments, a lining will add structure and will help with movement across the body as well as taking them on and off easily.
What can I make with this fabric?
Trousers, skirts, jackets and trench-style coats are all options. Pinafore dresses and simple tunics will also work well. Our dusty pink stretch cotton twill fabric has just a little ease as noted – cut a pair of trousers down the length of the fabric as you usually would, and your cigarette pants, clamdiggers, capri crops – or whatever your legwear of choice happens to be – will give just a little bit.
Why not consider a summer jacket for this fabric? We think the ‘Ottoline’ from Merchant & Mills would look very classy in this fabric, with the potential to dress up or down.
