Occasionally we come across a fabric that’s so exceptional that even if there’s only a tiny amount available, we can’t resist sharing that joy. If you’re an aficionado of the cardigan jacket, then you’ll know exactly what you’re looking at with this ivory and cream textured bouclé fabric. Fresh in from a high-end manufacturing source in Italy, this soft, draping, complex and even glittering fabric is a delightful cloth.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our ivory and cream textured bouclé fabric is 40% cotton with the balance of the composition made of up of polyester and acrylic fibres. That’s only part of the story however. Look closely at this fabulous fabric and you’ll see that woven into this complex, textured cloth are the tiniest sequins, metallic ribbons, fringed yarn and a host of other threads of varying textures and thicknesses that make this glorious fabric a feast for the eyes. These different elements aren’t woven into a heavier base fabric; they’re all combined to create a softly-draping structure with the a series of delicate stripes woven in at 13cm intervals
What does this fabric feel like?
This is a textured fabric with a very soft handle. It’ll be soft and comfortable to wear if there’s unlined contact with the skin as say, a collar or cuffs.
How does this fabric move?
This is a very draping fabric which has some structure but which won’t hold a shape without support. You can see how it moves in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
You will definitely need to line this fabric in order to provide additional structure as well as to enable it to move across the body and over clothing layers. In fact to create the kind of cardigan jacket it’s ideally suited for, you’ll probably also want to interline it (attaching a thin layer of supporting fabric such as a fine interfacing, lawn or organza) to help stabilise it and provide additional structure without overly compromising the drape.
What can I make with this fabric?
The cardigan-style jacket made famous by Coco Chanel is the classic use for a fabric such as this exceptional ivory and cream textured bouclé fabric. The pattern instructions here are created by Claire Shaeffer, known for her couture sewing guidance.

Steam gently before cutting, holding a steam iron 1 inch away from the wrong side of the fabric, working down the length. Use a steam iron and a pressing cloth to press areas of the garment during construction where necessary.
