Someone’s had fun with their paintbox – and it shows! We love the vibrant simplicity of this summery floral cotton lawn fabric. Unlike some cotton lawns, this one could only ever be for one season – it’s the kind of fabric that would have a garment scream ‘let summer begin!’ as you unfolded it from your seasonal storage. In fact there’s far more subtlety to this print design than you might first appreciate – the shaded colours and complementary contrasts are beautifully-considered. Rather than being riotous, these shades all work together very well and it’ll be easy to find matching and toning colours to work with them in your existing wardrobe.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our blue, yellow, orange, red and pink summery floral cotton lawn fabric is a lightweight, closely-woven cotton lawn. It’s woven from long-fibred ‘Pima’ cotton; strong, fine cotton yarn which results in a smooth, refined and high-quality cloth.
What does this fabric feel like?
This fabric has a very soft and smooth handle. It feels very fine yet it’s robust, stable and very easy to work with.
How does this fabric move?
The movement of this summery floral cotton lawn fabric is a soft, floating waft which will catch a breeze with elegance, as you can see from this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
The close weave and the print pattern of this blue and yellow floral cotton lawn fabric remove the need to line a top or tunic since it has decent opacity for its weight, although you’ll want to consider undergarments that don’t contrast with your skin colour. A fitted bodice would definitely require lining for strength and structure however, and a skirt or bottom half of a summer dress would benefit from a slip or underlay of some description. ‘Placket’, our plain white Pima cotton lawn fabric would work a treat.
What can I make with this fabric?
We think this fabric is perfect for cool, floating summery tops and blouses. Dresses too would be fabulous options – classic strapped sun-dresses or perhaps designs which made the most of its lighter weight, with softly-gathered skirts. We love the laid-back tops from The Sewing Revival; their simple shapes are the perfect canvas for vibrant and dramatic prints; their ‘Fantail Tank’ is a lovely example.
