This grey marled french terry fabric is a wonderfully-versatile cotton jersey fabric. French terry fabrics are as easy to work with as they are to wear; we think they’re set to become familiar friends in our wardrobes. This is a beautiful-quality fabric with a smooth and refined knit on the right side that belies the likely casual destiny of this classic jersey.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our grey french terry fabric is a loop-backed jersey knit, made primarily from cotton, with some polyester content and with just enough elastane for a resilient stretch-and-return.
What does this fabric feel like?
The fine yarns used in this french terry means that the ‘right’ side has a beautifully-smooth feel; the looped inside has a soft and comforting texture.
How does this fabric move?
Our teal organic french terry fabric isn’t a fluid knit – but it hangs and swings with character and falls into softly-angled folds. It has approximately 20% stretch-and-return across its width, with 40% down its length. You can see how it drapes and stretches in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
Our grey french terry fabric has great opacity; tops, hoodies, tunics and even trousers won’t need lining. This is a fabric that will be so comfortable next to the skin and which won’t embarrass you either.
What can I make with this fabric?
Tops, tunics, hoodies, sweater dresses – the list is endless! You could try a simple pair of pull-on lounge trousers, cropped with a slight flare – you wouldn’t even need to hem them – just let the bottoms roll up slightly for a casual finish (this fabric won’t fray!)
The ‘Toaster’ Sweater pattern from SewHouse7 is enormously popular and understandably so. We think this grey french terry is just the perfect fabric for a casual version of this design.
