We love gradually adding to our range of printed cotton lawn fabrics; it’s fun to find the matches that can be made across our plain collections. This pink floral cotton lawn fabric has a small-scale print pattern on a black background with muted pastel pinks, yellows, reds and greens in the palette. The black background may sound a little brutal against such a delicate combination of colours but actually it helps them to pop and adds depth the design.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our pink floral cotton lawn fabric is a lighter-weight, closely-woven cotton lawn. It’s woven from long-fibred ‘Pima’ cotton; strong, fine cotton yarn which results in a smooth, refined and high-quality cloth.
What does this fabric feel like?
This fabric has a soft, smooth and cool handle. It feels very fine yet it’s robust, stable and very easy to work with.
How does this fabric move?
The movement of this delightful pink floral cotton lawn fabric is a soft, floating drape which will catch a breeze with elegance, as you can see from this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
The close weave and the print pattern of this black, yellow, green and pink floral cotton lawn fabric remove the need to line a top or tunic since it has excellent for its weight. A fitted bodice would require lining for strength and structure but a skirt or bottom half of a summer dress would be just fine in a single layer over bare legs although in front of a bright light a silhouette may be visible.
What can I make with this fabric?
We think this fabric is perfect for cool, crisp cross-season tops and blouses. Dresses too would be fabulous options – classic strapped sun-dresses or perhaps designs which made the most of its lighter weight, with softly-gathered skirts. The world is loving sleeves with a little blowsy structure at the moment and we think the Wren Blouse by Chalk & Notch would allow you to make the most of this fabric’s gentle crispness in the sleeve department.
Sustainability
As a plant-based fibre, cotton is a natural product that can be grown easily. Cotton garments tend to be strong and durable and can be recycled. However current production levels of cotton will be increasingly difficult to sustain, especially when chemicals and large amounts of water are used to process cotton fabrics.
