Every stash needs fabrics that aren’t necessarily showstoppers – but excellent-quality fabrics which will perform a number of functions. This plain black peachskin fabric is the sister colourway to our Softly-draping plain white peachskin fabric and we think it’s versatile and practical fabric to have to hand for a number of reasons.
As with its compatriot, it has a beautifully soft handle, albeit with the little touch of texture on one side that you’d expect from a peachskin. It would make a very comfortable-next-to-the-skin lining for a bodice or other top, should you require it. As you can see from this video, it also has a very fluid drape.
A request we frequently receive is for lining options ‘that don’t make a rustling noise’. Personally we’re quite fond of the reassuringly-crisp rustle and swish of a lined skirt but we completely understand that’s not going to work for some garments. The drape and weight of this plain black peachskin fabric means that it will move elegantly and silently as a lining – whether for skirts or jackets. It will also help preserve and enhance the drape of your garment fabric.
As a dress fabric, this plain black peachskin fabric is a lighter weight cloth. It has a close weave and good opacity for its weight. As a top or tunic you wouldn’t need to line it if you were to pay attention to your undergarments which would need either to be black or skin-toned. However as a fitted garment or as a dress, a self-lining or a slip would be required for structure and modesty respectively.
Wash at 30 or 40 degrees – see our Fabric care pages for more information.
