Well – we could hardly say ‘no’ to this could we? Heading into the party season, we thought this back and gold floral crepe-de-chine fabric was simply irresistible. Perfect for eye-catching tops and bang up to date with the dark floral print and a rich metallic shine, this was one we were never going to let pass by.
What kind of fabric is this?
This black and gold floral crepe-de-chine is a polyester cloth. Closely-woven with the finely-textured surface you’d expect in a crepe-de-chine, we’d describe it as a lighter-weight dress or blouse fabric.
What does this fabric feel like?
This fabric has a slightly rippled but refined and cool handle. It’s very soft and gentle next to the skin; the yarn might have a metallic sheen but it doesn’t have the texture you might associate with a fabric that looks like this.
How does this fabric move?
Whether you decide to use it on the cross or hang it straight, our gold floral crepe-de-chine fabric loves to flow and ripple. You’ll need to take care to lay it out and pin carefully when working with it. A length of it will swing and drape with life and elegance as you can see in this video.
Will I need to line this fabric?
Our stunning gold floral crepe-de-chine fabric has very good opacity for its weight; the depth of colour also helps. A top, blouse or tunic won’t need lining. You will probably choose to line, layer or wear a half-slip under a skirt or dress if you’re wearing it over hosiery.
What can I make with this fabric?
Tops, blouses and dresses are all options for this rich, luxurious fabric. Draping, less structured designs are always going to be its forte. If party tops are in your line of sight then you’ll want to take a look at the ‘Heron’ Shirt from The Sewing Revival. With lots of variations to choose from – long sleeves, short sleeves and no sleeves – the gathered and relaxed lines of this design will be perfect for the upcoming party season.
