The shade of blue in this wafting indigo blue printed viscose challis fabric is a deceptive one. It seems intense next to the reds, corals and whites in this paisley-inspired print, yet isolate it and you’ll find it’s a surprisingly muted violet blue. It will look lovely next to faded denim and vibrant linens alike; perfect for a floating spring or summer top, designed to bring laid-back optimism to your wardrobe.
What kind of fabric is this?
This is is a lighter weight viscose fabric, woven in a plain weave pattern. The print design owes its origins to traditional Indian woodblock print designs, but with enough space to showcase the pretty violet blue of the background. The composition and weight make it the perfect choice for warmer weather garments.

How does this fabric move?
This is a fabric with a gentle drape and the kind of subtle structure you’d expect in a very fine cotton lawn. You can see how our cool violet blue printed viscose challis fabric moves and drapes in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
The weave of this fabric is plain and fairly close, with relatively good opacity due to the print design. You’ll be fine with an unlined blouse or tunic although you will need to consider undergarments that don’t contrast with your skin tone. However a silhouette will be visible against the sun and so depending the design of a dress or skirt, a plain cotton lawn lining or a half-slip will be advisable for modesty as well as for additional substance and shape.
What can I make with this fabric?
We think our wafting violet blue printed viscose challis fabric will be perfect for summer tops and blouses as well as more casual warmer-weather dresses and tunics. The delicate gathers and volume in a relaxed top like the ‘Roscoe’ from True / Bias would make lovely use of the gentle movement and relaxed print design of this fabric.
