Here’s another of our stunning ex-designer fabrics from Italy. This is a dark navy blue cotton twill fabric with a fine, close weave which, despite its utilitarian association, oozes class and refinement.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our dark navy blue cotton twill fabric has a classic diagonal twill weave. We’d describe it as a medium-weight twill, with excellent opacity for its weight. This is a 97% cotton fabric – the additional 3% being the inclusion of just a little elastane. That’s just enough to help with ease, fit and movement – this isn’t an obviously stretchy fabric.
What does this fabric feel like?
Although a robust fabric, our dark navy blue cotton twill fabric has a soft handle. The right side has a very slightly brushed finish which can’t be seen, but which can be felt. The reverse is very smooth and will be comfortable next to the skin.
How does this fabric move?
This is a very pliable fabric which isn’t in the least bulky. However despite its softness and pliability, it’s not a draping fabric. It holds a shape and falls into folds as you can see from this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
A pair of trousers or casual jacket in this fabric won’t need lining. However a dress, skirt or more formal jacket could be lined in order to add shape and structure; also to enable ease of movement when being worn or when you’re taking it on and off.
What can I make with this fabric?
Our classic dark navy blue blue cotton twill fabric is perfect for casual skirts and jean-style jackets but most particularly for trousers. The elastane and the twill weave both provide a little ease across the width of the fabric. Cut your trousers down the length of the fabric as you usually would, and your cigarette pants, clamdiggers, capri crops – or whatever your legwear of choice happens to be – will give just a little bit.
We think our dark navy blue cotton twill fabric would be perfect for the ever-popular ‘Lander’ pant from True x Bias patterns.
