We’re suckers for a creative colour combination and this lilac, coral and mauve viscose challis fabric drew us in as soon as we spotted it. It’s a variation on the offbeat ‘purple and orange’ story – a combination which manages to be exciting yet not in the least jarring. The shades here are a rich, muted mauve, with vibrant coral, lemon and lilac highlights.
What kind of fabric is this?
This is is a lovely-quality lightweight viscose fabric. It’s been woven in a plain weave pattern. It will gather, ruffle, layer and drape beautifully without bulkiness.
What does this fabric feel like?
Our coral and mauve viscose challis fabric has a soft, smooth handle. It will be cool and very comfortable next to the skin.
How does this fabric move?
This is a fabric that loves to flow and ripple. You can see how this softly-vibrant coral and mauve viscose challis fabric moves and drapes in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
The weave of this fabric is plain and fairly close, with good opacity for the weight of the fabric due to the print design. You’ll be just fine with an unlined blouse or top and for less formal, more carefree occasions in warmer weather, an unlined dress or skirt in this fabric will be perfectly acceptable, especially in draped designs. However a silhouette will be visible against the sun and so depending the design of a dress or skirt, a plain cotton lawn lining or a half-slip might be advisable.
What can I make with this fabric?
We think our rippling coral and mauve viscose challis fabric will be perfect for summer tops and blouses, warmer-weather dresses and tunics. This is very much a fabric for looser, draping or voluminous designs rather than for garments with structure. If you’re choosing a dress, then the design will need to work with the light weight of this fabric. We think the ‘Roscoe’ Blouse from True / Bias would use the qualities of this fabric well; the relaxed design is perfect for warmer weather.
