As ever we were on the lookout for cool-to-wear natural fibres for the summer months – but we really hadn’t imagined a fabric like this wonderfully-draping striped blue viscose fabric. Looking for all the world like a slightly flamboyant cotton shirting – this turned out to be anything but a stiff shirt. With cobalt blue warp (lengthwise) fibres woven onto fine white weft (widthwise) yarns, this is a fabric that will bring the freshest of feels to your summer wardrobe.
What kind of fabric is this?
This is is a beautiful-quality, medium-to-lighter weight viscose fabric. The chambray-like weave incorporates lengthwise stripes in white, tan, green and pink which stand out on the finely-woven background almost as if they’ve been embroidered.
What does this fabric feel like?
Our striped blue viscose fabric has a particularly smooth, cool handle. It will be very comfortable next to the skin.
How does this fabric move?
Undoubtedly, this is a fabric that loves to flow and ripple. You can see how our unusual striped blue viscose fabric moves and drapes in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
The weave of this fabric is a fine one, using fine yarns. A flowing blouse or shirt will be perfectly wearable without a lining but may reveal a silhouette with the light behind it; similarly contrasting underwear may show through. Depending the design of a dress or skirt, a plain cotton lawn lining or a half-slip might be advisable unless your pattern design is a voluminous one with folds or gathers of fabric.
What can I make with this fabric?
We think our draping striped blue viscose fabric will be perfect for summer tops and blouses, warmer-weather dresses and tunics. If you’re looking for a simple summer top to make the most of this design, we think the ‘Roscoe’ Blouse from True / Bias will look and feel wonderfully fresh atop a pair of cropped jeans or navy cotton twill trousers.
