We love the crisp contrast of the delicate white powderpuffs on this rich teal blue viscose challis fabric. Whether you’re considering a year-round shirt or a summer dress or tunic, we think this is a fabric that will justify a spot in your wardrobe the whole year round.
What kind of fabric is this?
This is is a lovely-quality, medium-to-lighter weight viscose fabric. It’s been woven in a plain weave pattern. The blue here is very much a teal blue but a rich, vibrant shade that is very definitely a warm, glowing blue and not a green.
What does this fabric feel like?
Our teal blue viscose challis fabric has a particularly smooth handle. It will be cool and very comfortable next to the skin.
How does this fabric move?
Use it on the cross or hang it straight – this is a fabric that loves to flow and ripple, yet it’s a stable fabric which will be straightforward to work with. You can see how our pretty teal blue viscose challis fabric moves and drapes in this video.
Will I need to line this fabric?
The weave of this fabric is plain and fairly close, with good opacity due to the print colour. You’ll be just fine with an unlined blouse or tunic and for less formal, more carefree occasions an unlined dress in this fabric will be perfectly acceptable. However a silhouette may be visible against the sun and a plain cotton lawn lining or a half-slip might be advisable depending on your pattern design.
What can I make with this fabric?
We think our rippling teal blue viscose challis fabric will be perfect for summer tops and blouses, warmer-weather dresses and tunics. It’ll pop when worn with white separates but has plenty of impact to stand on its own.
For layering in cooler weather, you might want to consider the new ‘Bessie’ Tunic pattern from Style Arc. We love its versatility and angled lines which will make the most of the movement in this lovely viscose print.
Wash at 30 or 40 degrees – see our Fabric care pages for more information.
