This burnt orange doubleweave fabric is a rare beast. Only very occasionally do we find doubleweave fabrics where the two surfaces of a fabric are woven together as part of the manufacturing process as opposed to being stitched or bonded together. They invariable have a beautifully-rounded drape and a sense of substance that is difficult to describe.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our burnt orange doubleweave fabric is a blend of viscose and polyester, with just a little stretch. Closely woven with excellent opacity, we’d describe it either as a draping suiting fabric or sitting towards the heavier end of a medium-weight dress fabric. The layers of fabric are individually quite thin – and the weave pattern that brings them together resembles a very subtle piqué.
What does this fabric feel like?
This is a fabric with a beautifully gentle handle. It will be soft and comfortable if worn next to the skin.
How does this fabric move?
This is a draping fabric which falls and swings with elegance. It’s very pliable and easy to work. Our burnt orange doubleweave fabric has just a little stretch across its width – less than 5%. There’s just enough to provide a small amount of ease in a fitted garment. You can see how it moves and stretches in this video.
Will I need to line this fabric?
Our rippling burnt orange doubleweave fabric has excellent opacity for its weight. You won’t need to line a dress or tunic made from this fabric for purposes of modesty, however a dress may require a bodice lining for structure depending on your pattern design. Jackets and skirts will most likely require lining for structure and shape as well as movement across the body, especially over hosiery.
What can I make with this fabric?
Dresses and separates including skirts, dresses and jackets too, are all options for this characterful fabric. Coat-dresses are also worth consideration, as are jumpsuits and trousers, albeit in more relaxed or wide-legged designs. The ‘Leah’ Lounge Pant from Style Arc is one of our tried and tested patterns which we love – and which would be perfect for this soft suiting-style fabric.
