We think it’s always a good thing to have some garments in your wardrobe that you can rely on for elegance, style and a little bit of self-expression, whatever the weather and whatever the occasion. Garments that will work hard for their keep as dresses, separates and more formal suits. Crepe is a fabulous fabric for these demanding roles – and we try to make sure that we’ve always a selection of colourways in our collection. Our latest, this warm-toned stone-grey triple crepe fabric, sits beautifully with a number of our calm, neutral greys and ivory fabrics. It also provides a fabulous bakckground for more vibrant colours as well as pastel shades.
Although we’d describe this as a warm, very soft shade of grey, we freely admit that it’s also a deceptive colour in that like many pale tones it picks up the prevailing light and reflects the tones of fabrics around it. We’ve taken great care to colour-balance our images under an accurate light but if you’re matching, then we recommend you ask us for a sample. It looks beautiful with taupes, whites and ivory as well as with lilacs and lavenders whose soft shades will be highlighted when placed against this calm shade of grey.
As a triple crepe, our stone-grey triple crepe fabric drapes exceptionally well as you would expect. We’d describe it either as a heavier dress fabric or as a medium-weight suiting. It has enough weight and substance not to highlight every lump and bump it might encounter – and it moves with grace as you can see from this video.
Our triple crepe fabrics are a bit of a gift for dresses with drape, coat-dresses, elegant jackets, skirts and trousers alike. If you’ve a special occasion then this will be a delicious fabric to dress up, in the knowledge that you can keep it as for classic ‘best’ dressing – or decide to get your wear out of it through the season.
It has very good opacity for its weight and just a little bit of mechanical ease across the width and the bias of the fabric. A dress or trousers wouldn’t require lining – but you might want to line a special garment just to help with structure and movement against the body. It is a polyester cloth but with that comes washability (although not if you’ve lined it!) and durability.
We’ve sewn lots with our triple crepe fabrics. They’re particularly good for elegant jumpsuits – we’ve collected some jumpsuit patterns on this Pinterest board. Alice used an alternative colourway of this stone-grey triple crepe fabric for a wedding jumpsuit – you can find out more about that here. This is the result!
Wash at 30 or 40 degrees – however we recommend spot-or dry-cleaning lined garments. See our Fabric care pages for more information.
