We thought this black and vibrant green leaf-printed georgette fabric would be the perfect fabric to take us through the coldest months of winter. The wonder of taking off a heavy coat or jacket to reveal the optimism of this glorious print will lift the spirits. As a semi-sheer fabric it might not be ideal for daywear as a single layer. However as a draping overshirt during the day – or as an elegant evening layer over a black bra or camisole in the evening we think it’s a fabric that might start off as an indulgence but one which swiftly establishes itself as a wardrobe favourite.
We love it for lots of reasons – not least because it’s a fabulous reminder of how far sheer and semi-sheer fabrics have come in the last few years. No longer the preserve of staid designs that might make anyone feel older than their years or less tasteful than their intentions, the eye-popping colours on this black and green leaf-printed georgette fabric demonstrate that a semi-sheer fabric can make other kinds of statements.
This is a fluid, draping fabric but one which has a good structure and which we think will behave itself relatively well when you work with it. Although a polyester fabric, its structure allows for some breatheability and it’s a fabric with more stability and substance than you might expect from a georgette. It has a typically crepe-like handle, although one which isn’t in the least rough or coarse; it feels refined and perfectly comfortable next to the skin. You can see how it swings and falls in this video.
We’re eyeing up this black and green leaf-printed georgette fabric as a candidate for the ClothSpot Slinky Shirt Kit. We think its elegant drape will lend itself perfectly to the pattern we’ve selected for that design and we’ll let you know as soon as we’ve tried it out!
Wash at 30 or 40 degrees – see our Fabric care pages for more information.
