This enigmatic muted brick red Tencel piqué fabric is the latest of our Tencels to arrive in the ClothSpot studio. This is an extremely versatile fabric which lends itself to a wide range of garments – jumpsuits, dresses, tops and relaxed trousers. The shade of red here is a muted brick red; leaning towards pink in some lights and terracotta in others. It looks wonderful with muted greens and khaki, burgundy and crisp neutrals.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our brick red Tencel-linen fabric is 57% Tencel with 43% viscose yarns. It’s a light-to-medium weight dress fabric (200 gsm) with a close waffle-like piqué weave with excellent opacity for its weight. Tencel fabrics are manufactured from plant-based cellulose using a closed-loop production method in which water is recycled and there are minimum waste products. They’re breathable and resist fading.
There’s no ease in this fabric so you’ll need to factor that into your garment choice and sizing. You’ll also need to pre-wash your fabric to ensure that any initial shrinkage is removed prior to cutting.
What does this fabric feel like?
This is a smooth, bouncing fabric; cool to the touch with some texture in its weave but supremely comfortable next to the skin.
How does this fabric move?
This brick red Tencel piqué fabric is a lively cloth which falls and swings beautifully, but which will hold a shape with character. You can see how it moves in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
You won’t need to line a shirt, top or tunic made from this fabric, however a dress may require a bodice lining for structure depending on your pattern design. Unless you’re wearing it over bare legs, then you’ll need a half-slip to enable this fabric to move against your body.
What can I make with this fabric?
Our brick red Tencel piqué fabric is a versatile fabric which we think will lend itself to shirts, tunics and dresses as well as elegant relaxed jumpsuits. Loosely-fitted trousers will also be an option. We have our eye on the ‘Intrepid’ Boiler Suit from Alice & Co Patterns. With options for zipped and buttoned front, we think the drape in this fabric will match the relaxed and elegant cut of this jumpsuit.
