We love crepe fabrics for their elegant movement and gentle texture brought about by the classic crepe weave using highly twisted threads. This cerise crepe fabric is perfect for a little summer colour, the weave structure and viscose yarn lending breathability and comfort.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our cerise crepe fabric is an elegant crepe fabric which we’d describe as a medium-weight dress fabric. It’s a blend of viscose and polyester, with just a little stretch.
What does this fabric feel like?
As you’d expect from a crepe fabric, this is a fabric with a slightly textured feel; however it’s also very soft. It will be comfortable to wear next to the skin and it’s breatheable too.
How does this fabric move?
Although a beautifully-draping cloth, our cerise crepe fabric has a little substance to the way it moves, preferring folds and ripples rather than fluid piles of fabric. It has just a little stretch across its width to provide a small amount of ease in a fitted garment. You can see how it moves in this video.
Will I need to line this fabric?
This cerise crepe fabric has excellent opacity for its weight. You won’t need to line a shirt, top or tunic made from this fabric, however a dress may require a bodice lining for structure depending on your pattern design. Unless you’re wearing it over bare legs, then you’ll need a half-slip to enable this fabric to move against your body.
What can I make with this fabric?
Tops, tunics and dresses are all options for this cerise viscose crepe fabric. Skirts and even trousers too would be options, although the latter would need to be less-fitting, more fluid designs such as palazzo pants. You could try a classic pattern such as this ‘Sadie’ Slip Dress from Tessuti Patterns. It would provide the perfect basis for cool, relaxed and elegant layering.
