We’re not a particularly excitable lot here at ClothSpot – and when we do get wound up about something it can often be the most unassuming fabric that sparks our passion. This draping dark, dark navy blue stretch wool suiting fabric is one such example. We’d describe it as sitting at the lighter-weight end of the medium-weight suiting bracket – and it’s just what we’ve been waiting for.
Our deep navy blue stretch wool suiting fabric has a smooth, refined handle. Its close twill weave accounts for a beautifully-fluid movement. You can see how it falls and swings in this video.
The stretch here is very slight – well under 5% we’d say. However if you’re making a fitted garment then it will give you just that bit of ease that you need to maintain a snug fit whilst still being able to move about.
This is a very dark navy blue fabric – however it is very definitely a navy blue. Put it with other dark blues and it’ll allow them to stand out a little. Mustard, ivory, scarlet – the list of colour companions we’d like to find for this navy blue stretch wool suiting fabric is a long one.
We’re particularly taken with the idea of using this fabric for trousers – particularly wider-legged or more relaxed cuts that will allow this fabric to drape its best. Skirts and classic tunic and shift dresses will prove to be wardrobe staples for ever. Jackets are absolutely an option – although this is a fabric probably more suited to a more relaxed fit rather then a highly-structured design.
On the trouser front, we’re looking at the ‘McKenzie’ Woven Pant from Style Arc. We think that wide-cut leg will be the perfect opportunity to show off our navy blue stretch wool suiting fabric.
Finally if you’re looking for a classic lining worthy of this fabric, you may want to consider our Rich navy blue viscose satin lining fabric.
