Whatever the season, fabrics like this pale fawn stretch cotton drill fabric are destined to be wardrobe staples. Admittedly it’s not a dressy fabric – but it possesses its own classic elegance and even on the most casual of occasions will suggest that you’ve made at least a little effort, albeit in a laid-back way.
As drill fabrics go, this is a robust medium-weight stretch cotton drill, with a dense and flat weave that resembles a canvas more than a drill. It’s a pliable fabric; sturdy but with a resilient 5% stretch and good structure as you can see in this video.
As you can see, the stretch here is one which amounts to ease, rather than the kind of give that would allow you to pull on a garment without a zip fastening. It runs across the width of the fabric so you’d cut the pattern pieces for your trousers (or whatever you’re creating) placed down the length of the fabric in order to use the ease across the width of the garment.
Our pale fawn stretch cotton drill fabric is a cooler shade of stone than our Pure and simple stone stretch cotton drill fabric but it’s equally versatile. Trousers are likely to be your first port of call – but classic skirts and casual jackets are also options.
We’re well aware that wide-legged trousers are quite ‘the thing’ this season but if you like a little close-fitting comfort in the trouser department then we think our pale fawn stretch cotton drill fabric would be perfect for the ‘Julie’ Stretch Woven pant from Style Arc.
