We love crepe fabrics for their elegant movement and gentle texture brought about by the classic crepe weave, created using highly twisted threads. We loved the vibrancy of this blue floral crepe fabric with those coral, gold, orange and mauve flowers rioting across it in bunches. We think it’s the perfect way of lifting an otherwise understated outfit, perhaps as a draping blouse over a classic tailored skirt or trousers.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our blue floral crepe fabric is a polyester crepe which we’d describe as a lighter-weight dress fabric or as a blouse fabric..
What does this fabric feel like?
As you’d expect from a crepe fabric, this is a fabric with a slightly textured feel. It will be comfortable to wear next to the skin and although it’s a polyester, the lighter weight and the crepe weave will allow some air through too.
How does this fabric move?
Our vibrant blue floral crepe fabric is a beautifully-draping fabric, fluid in its movement. You can see how it moves, drapes and swings in this video.
Will I need to line this fabric?
You won’t need to line a shirt, top or tunic made from this fabric, although you might want to pay a little attention to any undergarments and ensure that they don’t contrast too much with your skin colour. If you’re making a skirt or dress then unless you’re wearing it over bare legs, you’ll need a half-slip to enable this fabric to move freely against your body. It’s a fabric more suited to draping pattern designs rather then fitted bodices, which would require a robust lining to ‘take the strain’.
What can I make with this fabric?
Tops, blouses and tunics are all fabulous options for this draping blue floral crepe fabric. Skirts and dresses are also on the cards although you’d probably want to choose less structured, more draping and flowing designs in order to make the most of the qualities of this fabric. If you’re a fan of classic pussy-bow blouses then this ‘Tiffany’ Blouse pattern from Style Arc’s definitely one to consider. Perfect for this fabric, it will make the most of its ability to drape.
