Our draping black ponte Roma jersey fabric is another lovely doubleknit with a smooth handle and an elegant drape. It’s a classic medium-weight ponte Roma which treads a careful middle line between softness, drape, stretch and structure. It moves elegantly as you can see in this video – but it still has enough body to hold a shape.
We think our draping black ponte Roma jersey fabric is a classic wardrobe staple. It has a good spring-back from its spandex content which is largely across the width of the fabric. Since it holds a shape well, dresses and draping layers are all possibilities, as well as tops, tunics, wraps and loungewear. We also think it might be up for a spot of legging as well as layering, if you’re that way inclined.
This draping black ponte Roma jersey fabric is the perfect candidate for a playing with your colour blocking. Jewel colours, glowing autumnal shades or pretty pastels – this is the fabric that will make them all pop and catch the eye. You could choose to layer along the lines of these classic styles from Eileen Fisher.
Alternatively you could try a colour-blocking dress such as the ‘Zadie’ from Tilly and the Buttons.
It’s worth taking a look at any dress pattern for knitted fabrics to see if you can play with using panels of different colour. Just make sure your choices of fabric are a similar weight and structure – we’re always happy to advise if you’re in any doubt. Also, do make sure you pre-wash your fabrics before cutting. Ponte Roma jersey fabrics tend to hold colour well, but if there’s any initial dye loss then you’ll want to deal with that before sewing different colours together.
