Jersey knits are a fabulous choice for transitioning between seasons. We think the abstract bluebirds on this navy blue and rich gold printed cotton jersey fabric strike just the right balance between bright summer colours and the rich tones we indulge in during the colder months. Don’t miss the cobalt blue beaks of these rotund birds – they give this vibrant jersey a real lift.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our navy blue and gold printed cotton jersey fabric is a lovely medium-weight single-knit fabric. The yarns used here are fine and the knit is close, providing a fabric with very good opacity for its weight.
What does this fabric feel like?
The fine weave here means that this is a smooth fabric with a soft feel. However it isn’t a floppy fabric – it has good structure and resilience.
How does this fabric move?
Our bluebirds on gold printed cotton jersey fabric isn’t a fluid knit – but it hangs and swings with character. It has approximately 25% stretch-and-return across its width and length; this ease and its movement too, are helped by the elastane content. You can see how it drapes and stretches in this video.
Will I need to line this fabric?
You won’t need to line a t-shirt, top or tunic; this jersey is substantial enough to cope in a single layer for most types of garment. A skit or dress however would need a lining or a half-slip in order for it to move over hosiery, unless you’re wearing it over bare legs.
What can I make with this fabric?
Tops, tunics, dresses and even lounge trousers would all be options for this classic single-knit. Style Arc have lots of patterns for layering jersey fabrics – from relaxed wrap cardigans to tunics and t-shirts in different styles. We think the ‘Savannah’ Top from Style Arc would be a fabulous statement piece as well as a starting point for some autumnal layering too.
