It’s time for some more coating colour in the ClothSpot collections! If you’ve been following our ClothSpot Instagram, you’ll have seen Alice’s Oslo coat, created from a length of mohair in her personal ‘stash’. This fabulously-cosy raspberry pink wool mix coating fabric is your opportunity to create your own portable hug.
What kind of fabric is this?
This is a medium-weight coating fabric which we think will punch above its weight on the warmth front due to the complex weave structure and pronounced mohair-like nap, both of which will trap a layer of air to keep you snug and warm. It might not be the fabric to take you through the snowiest or frostiest of winter weather, but a coat made from this fabric won’t be overly heavy either. Although the structure of this pink wool mix coating fabric is a blend of polyester and acrylic, it also contains wool and alpaca.
What does this fabric feel like?
This is a fabric with a particularly soft and textured handle. It’ll be comfortable and warm next to the skin as a coat collar; it’s also extremely pliable and will shape to fit around the body with comfort.
How does this fabric move?
Our raspberry pink wool mix coating fabric has a pronounced drape. Although tucks and pleats will help form shapes, this is a fabric that will fall easily and move with elegance as you can see from this video.
Will I need to line this fabric?
You’ll probably want to line this fabric in order to provide additional structure as well as to enable it to move across the body and over clothing layers. A lining will also add a layer of warmth, helping to block breezes for moving through a cloth which has a looser weave than some coatings. We think that our ‘Confection’ cobalt, mauve and pink abstract satin fabric will do justice to this very special pink coating.
What can I make with this fabric?
We sourced this cosy pink wool mix coating fabric specifically for its suitability for the ‘Oslo’ Coat pattern from Tessuti. The draping pliability of the fabric, together with the delicious pile, not to mention the colour, are all attributes which we think will make a stunning version of this design.
32% acrylic, 29% polyester, 14% wool, 6% alpaca, 5% other fibres
We recommend spot- and dry-cleaning wool garments, particularly if they’re lined. Find out more on our About our fabric pages
