We’ve been casting about, rather, for a navy blue stretch cotton drill fabric. We can go for months with a steady supply – then the supply dries up, we look for a replacement and there are none to be seen. Which was the case recently until we discovered this unusual but rather fabulous version.
As drill fabrics go, this is a robust medium-weight stretch cotton drill, with a denim-like weave. The face of the fabric has a diagonal twill weave appearance but the reverse is the usual drill weave. It’s a pliable fabric; sturdy but with a decent 10% stretch and good structure as you can see in this video.
Our newly-discovered navy blue stretch cotton drill fabric has has very good opacity even when stretched. The stretch runs across the width of the fabric so you’d cut the pattern pieces for your trousers (or whatever you’re creating) placed down the length of the fabric in order to use the ease across the width of the garment.
We’re relieved to have a navy blue stretch cotton drill fabric back in stock, especially such a lovely example. The shade of navy blue here is a good solid one. Not especially dark, but not leaning towards grey, green or purple in any way. We think our navy blue stretch cotton drill fabric is extraordinarily versatile. Trousers as mentioned, jackets and skirts – these are all options.
We’re well aware that wide-legged trousers are quite ‘the thing’ this season but if you like a little close-fitting comfort in the trouser department then we think our navy blue stretch cotton drill fabric would be perfect for the ‘Julie’ Stretch Woven pant from Style Arc.
