We love the clarity of the turquoise and cerulean blues in this sky blue floral cotton lawn fabric. They pop wonderfully against the finely-etched black outlines of the flowers and the neutral stone of the foliage.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our sky blue floral cotton lawn fabric is a lighter-weight, closely-woven cotton lawn. It’s woven from long-fibred ‘Pima’ cotton; strong, fine cotton yarn which results in a smooth, refined and high-quality cloth.
What does this fabric feel like?
As you’d expect from a ‘Pima’ cotton lawn, it has a very smooth, almost silky feel.
How does this fabric move?
Cotton lawn fabrics tend to float and waft with a little crispness. You can see how our sky blue floral cotton lawn fabric moves and drapes in this video.
Will I need to line this fabric?
You won’t need to line a shirt, top or tunic. However a skirt or dress would need a lining or a half-slip unless you’re making an informal summer dress, since a silhouette will be visible with sunlight behind. Our sky blue floral cotton lawn fabric would also need a lining for strength if you were making a more structured garment such as a fitted bodice for a dress.
What can I make with this fabric?
We think this fabric is perfect for summer tops and blouses – and, we think, gently-falling maxi dresses. We’d be inclined to make the most of its lighter weight with ruches and softly-rolling gathers, bringing body and movement to a garment without bulkiness. However we think this crisp print would also be rather lovely as a cool summer shirt – in which case a pattern such as the Grainline Archer would be the perfect choice.
You can find out more about this design in our blog posts – it’s a very straightforward pattern that we’d recommend either for shirt beginners or anyone looking for a classic less-fitted shirt.
