We all love our doubleknit jersey fabrics, especially between seasons as they’re so versatile. However they can vary enormously and so we’re reluctant to lump them together. We wouldn’t want simply to offer different colours unless we know they’re different colourways of the same fabric. This black ponte Roma jersey fabric is a case in point.
We’d describe our black ponte Roma jersey fabric as a very straight-foward jersey that we think would work equally well as a base, mid or top layer of an outfit. We don’t think it’s a leggings fabric as it doens’t have quite the spandex content required for that level of stretch-and-return. Conversely it’s not the most draping of ponte Roma jersey fabrics – it has a little more substance and structure than some, so this isn’t the one to choose for a cowl-necked top for instance. However it still has plenty of veratility – we’d suggest that it’s very well-suited to informal outer layers, tunics, skirts and dresses. You can see how this black ponte Roma jersey fabric moves and drapes in this video.
We’d say that the viscose and spandex contents were a little lower in this fabric than for some other ponte Roma jersey fabrics we’ve stocked. However as a result it holds a shape well – and we’re eyeing it up for a cross-season jacket; practical indoors and out for taking on and off as the temperature (inevitably) fluctuates.
We think it would be a great choice for Grainline’s ‘Morris’ Blazer where it would hold the angles of the lapels well and provide a little external shaping as an outer layer.
