We love the versatile practicality of cotton drill fabrics, perfect for so many garment from jackets to skirts and trousers. However sometimes it’s a treat to have a fabric with a little more in the way of sophistication and so we come to this undoubtedly refined ivory blended linen drill fabric.
A combination of cotton and linen, with a very slightly textured drill weave, our ivory blended linen drill fabric is a medium-weight drill with good opacity for its colour and weight. It has excellent structure and as you’d expect from a drill, we wouldn’t describe it as a draping fabric. You can see its structure and shape-holding capacity in this video.
This ivory blended linen drill fabric has a beautifully-refined handle with a superior finish and a fine linen-like texture woven into the fabric. It washes well (we’ve checked!) losing just a little bit of that finish in the process as you would expect. We love the resulting slightly relaxed look and structure – it reminds us of those fabulous sailor-front trousers worn by the character Louisa in The Durrells.
We’d suggest attention paid to undergarments will do the trick on the modesty front. If you decide to go down the trouser route then knickers approximating your flesh colour will be the way to go.
You could unearth a vintage pattern for these trousers – or if you wanted a more contemporary version then Burda Pattern 6573 might be your friend.
