Cross-season dressing has increasingly become a jersey story over the last few years, with its potential for layering and versatility. Stretch knit fabrics can be just as elegant as more traditional woven fabrics, and this charcoal ponte Roma jersey fabric, flecked with jewel-like colours of blue, gold and ruby red, is the latest of our Italian doubleknit fabrics with a reassuringly-firm stretch.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our subtly-colourful charcoal ponte Roma jersey fabric is a blend of polyester, viscose and spandex. It has more in the way of structure and resilience than our more draping double-knits. However it’s not a bulky fabric and will be easy to work. You can find our more about ponte Roma jersey fabrics in this blog post.
What does this fabric feel like?
Despite its evident substance, this remains a very smooth-handled, pliable doubleknit which will be very comfortable next to the skin.
How does this fabric move?
This ponte Roma jersey fabric isn’t a fluid or draping jersey – but that’s not to say it doesn’t hang and move elegantly. It falls into gently-angled folds and has a resilient two-way stretch-and-return. The ease both down and across the fabric is around the 20% mark. You can see how it moves and stretches in this video.

Will I need to line this fabric?
The excellent opacity and smooth finish of this structured charcoal ponte Roma jersey fabric means a lining wouldn’t be required for purposes of comfort or modesty, although you could choose to self-line the top of a dress or a fitted skirt for additional structure.
What can I make with this fabric?
Tops, tunics, A-line dresses and lighter-weight outerwear too are all options for this flecked charcoal ponte Roma jersey fabric. We think it’s a tremendously versatile fabric. It has sufficient resilience and opacity for closely-fitted trousers, including leggings. It will also work particularly well as an unlined top, jacket or blazer, particularly where a little shape is required. We think it would be the perfect choice for a stylish jodhpurs such as the Wallis Pants from Style Arc.
