We’ve been delighted to offer a number of silk crepe-de-chine fabrics that have come to us from a high-end UK design house. This muted lemon silk and acetate crepe-de-chine fabric is a very similar quality of fabric from the same source; we’re delighted that it’s given us the opportunity to extend our colour range. The shade of lemon here is very soft and buttery; it’s the perfect accompaniment to earthy neutrals such as soft browns; also pastels, ivories and creams.
What kind of fabric is this?
This is a finely-woven, lightly-textured crepe-de-chine fabric composed primarily of acetate yarn and blended with silk and a little polyester. Acetate, like viscose, is created from cellulose. As with our silk crepe-de-chine fabrics, we’d describe this as a lighter-weight dress or blouse fabric. The weight per square metre is 70 grammes.
What does this fabric feel like?
Our soft lemon silk & acetate crepe-de-chine fabric has a slightly rippled but refined and cool handle. It’s breathable so a good option for warmer weather. It’s supremely soft and gentle next to the skin.
How does this fabric move?
Whether you decide to use it on the cross or hang it straight, our lemon silk and acetate crepe-de-chine fabric flows, billows and ripples just as you’d hope. You’ll need to take care to lay it out and pin carefully when working with it. A length of it will swing and drape with life and elegance as you can see in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
This fabric has very good opacity for its weight and colour. A top, blouse or tunic won’t need lining although you’ll need to consider your undergarments; the smoother the better. You may want to line, layer or wear a half-slip under a skirt or dress in order to give it some freedom of movement as well as to obscure any silhouettes.
What can I make with this fabric?
Draping, less structured designs are always going to be its forte. We’ve been using its silk siblings as a ‘Mélilot Shirt by Deer & Doe patterns; we like the covered front button placket and the simplicity of the sleeve construction. Watch this space for pictures!
86% acetate, 9% silk, 5% polyester
We recommend washing this fabric by hand; take care not to wring out tightly. Drip dry. See our Fabric care pages for more information.
