We’re having great fun finding printed fabrics that can be used as summer trousers (as well as lots of other garments too). We just love the idea of wearing something a little different below the waist and although differently-coloured and printed skirts are something most of us are comfortable with, celebrating a bit of difference on the trouser front often seems like a big step. This soft grey printed stretch cotton drill fabric however is perfect for a pair of summer crops we think.
As drill fabrics go, this is a slightly lighter-weight version and is extremely pliable – yet it’s still a fabric with substance holds a shape with a crisp structure as you can see in this video.
We love the print pattern here – it’s like a day out in a country house, with suggestions of architectural elements and foliage too. Our soft grey printed stretch cotton drill fabric has a slightly textured handle and has a substantial stretch of about 40%. it has very good opacity; the print pattern and colour will all help in terms of preserving modesty and we don’t think the ‘visible underwear’ issue will be one to worry about with this fabric.
You’ll need to know that stretch runs down the length of this grey printed stretch cotton drill fabric, as is sometimes the case. A dress, trousers or skirt will need to be cut across the width of the fabric to allow the stretch to run across your garment – so check your fabric requirements and layout accordingly. Some pattern companies (e.g. Style Arc) will give different fabric requirements according to the direction of the stretch.
We think our grey printed stretch cotton drill fabric is extraordinarily versatile. Fitted dresses with built-in ease, trousers as mentioned, jackets and skirts are all options.
We’re well aware that wide-legged trousers are quite ‘the thing’ this season but if you like a little close-fitting comfort in the trouser department then we think our grey printed stretch cotton drill fabric would be perfect for the ‘Julie’ Stretch Woven pant from Style Arc.
