There are high-end women’s fashion shops that offer each season, classic cut t-shirts in a range of colours that varies from season to season. There are those among us who happily acquire them in the knowledge that they look and feel classy and wear well. Micromodal is frequently a core element of these garments and our latest offering in this sustainable, UK-manufactured range of knits is this timeless white micromodal jersey fabric. Wear it as a t-shirt under a classic blazer, a draping summer top or luxury lingerie – you’ll know its the one.
What kind of fabric is this?
This is a finely-knitted lighter-weight jersey fabric in a blend of micromodal and spandex. Modal is a cellulose-derived yarn; micromodal is a fine quality of that yarn used to create knitted fabrics that are notable for their comfort and durability.
What does this fabric feel like?
As you’d expect from a micromodal jersey fabric, this is a fabric with a very soft, smooth handle. It will be comfortable to wear next to the skin and it’s breatheable too.
How does this fabric move?
Our soft white micromodal jersey fabric is very much a draping knit with a fluid movement. It has approximately 25% stretch across its width and rather less than that down the length of the fabric. You can see how it moves and stretches in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
You won’t need to line a shirt, top or tunic made from our white micromodal jersey fabric, however smoother undergarments that don’t contrast with your skin tone are preferable since this is a lighter-coloured and finely-knitted jersey.
What can I make with this fabric?
Tops, tunics and t-shirts as well as lingerie are all options for our white micromodal jersey fabric. Although it could be used for a simple draped or slip dress, this is a fine jersey knit which we think is more suited to tops rather than more substantial garments. (Look out for heavier versions of this luscious knit fabric later in the year!) You’ll need to find a pattern intended for a knit fabric; garments with simple silhouettes and more draping designs will work particularly well, as will those which incorporate elements of ruching and negative ease. Alice created her version of the ‘Isla’ Top from Tessuti in the claret colourway of this fabric – you can see it on our @ClothSpot Instagram grid!
