Fleecy furry fabrics aren’t our usual offering we know – but there’s something incredibly indulgent about this pink and plum fleece-backed jersey rib fabric and at the time of posting, there’s snow forecast for the weekend, so here we are. This ranks easily among the Top Five Cosiest Fabrics we’ve ever offered, we love the colour and we can’t wait to huddle, snuggle and generally hunker down.
What kind of fabric is this?
This is a polyester fabric with a little elastane added. We don’t ordinarily offer up polyester fabrics but just occasionally there’s a good reason, usually because of the quality or nature of the fabric. The outer layer of this plum fleece-backed jersey rib fabric looks like a corduroy – but it’s actually a closely-knitted rib jersey. The inside is a smooth pink velour. The two layers are securely bonded.
What does this fabric feel like?
We don’t think a fabric could come softer, smoother or cosier than this one. Either side is supremely comfortable to wear; we’re working on the basis that the pink fleece velour will be on the inside and if it is, then you’ll be in heaven. The velour has a directional pile that runs lenghwise so you’ll want to be careful about cutting all your pattern pieces so that runs down the length of your garment.
How does this fabric move?
Our pink and plum fleece-backed jersey rib fabric has a soft, blanket-like drape. It hangs and swings with character and falls into soft folds. It has approximately 20% stretch-and-return across its width, with about 10% ease down its length. You can see how it drapes and stretches in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
This cosy fleecy wonder is opaque; to line it would be to defeat the object of the bonded layer of velour which would be fabulous as the inside of a hoodie, looking lovely as a colour contrast feature too.
What can I make with this fabric?
Sweater tops, winter tunics, hoodies, jackets, sweater dresses – the list is endless! You even could try a simple pair of pull-on lounge trousers; you wouldn’t need to hem them – just let the bottoms roll up slightly for a casual finish (this fabric won’t fray!). The ‘Page Hoodie’ from Chalk & Notch would be a fabulous cosy top – an easy win too.
