A woodland walk in early spring is a rare treat. A particular favourite are the bejewelled primulas that are beginning to dot the ground under the trees – vibrant patches of colour when even the grass seems to be struggling. The woodland walks at Hestercombe House are truly lovely example and we were reminded of them by this delightful floral viscose crepe fabric.
The palette of the print pattern here is very primula-like. Rich gentian blue petals centered with gold; glowing orange, pistachio green and deep burgundy – all grounded with a hint of darker green foliage. This printed floral viscose crepe fabric is the perfect choice to ease you from winter woollens into a more spring-like frame of mind, even though at the time of writing we’re still in the depths of a gloomy grey winter.
Our primula-inspired floral viscose crepe fabric is a lighter-weight crepe with a softly-structured drape, a fine weave and a typically crepe-like texture. You can see that lovely drape in this video.
The quality of viscose used here is a particularly lovely one with a very slightly light-reflective quality – the weave and print pattern combined are redolent of the 1930s to our mind. We’ve teamed it with our ‘Le Touquet’ draping french navy satin-backed crepe fabric since it has the remarkable effect of highlighting the blue in this floral viscose crepe fabric – see it pop!
Our floral viscose crepe fabric has surprisingly good opacity given the light cream background to the print. As a blouse, top or tunic it would work beautifully; as a dress you’d need to consider a lining or slip just to allow it to move against the body and give it a little extra substance. However if you were planning a more flowing summer dress then we think it has just enough substance to work by itself, depending on your pattern design.
If you’ll excuse us having a ‘vintage moment’ we just couldn’t resist suggesting McCalls 7433 as the perfect example of how you might use our printed floral viscose crepe fabric – although we’re sure that it would work equally wonderfully in a more contemporary design.
Wash at 30 or 40 degrees – see our Fabric care pages for more information.
