Latest in our line of ‘well – that was unexpected’ selections, comes this blue and purple floral loop-back viscose jersey fabric. Loop-back is usually a knit choice for fairly basic loungewear – and there’s nothing wrong with that. However this specimen breaks boundaries in a couple of ways. First, because of its viscose composition; second – it’s a floral print. We love a rebel so we’re thrilled to welcome it into our collections.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our floral loop-back viscose jersey fabric is a draping single knit jersey fabric in which the reverse of the fabric is characterised by little loops of yarn which add warmth and a comforting softness. It’s mostly a viscose fabric which means it’s soft and breathable. It has a small amount of elastane which enhances the drape and provides about a 20% two-way stretch.
What does this fabric feel like?
As you’d expect from a viscose jersey fabric, this is a fabric with a very soft, smooth handle. It will be beautifully gentle and comfortable to wear next to the skin.
How does this fabric move?
Our purple floral loop-back viscose jersey fabric is a very draping single knit with a swinging movement. You can see how it moves and stretches in this video.
Will I need to line this fabric?
You won’t need to line a top, trousers or tunic made from this fabric. It has very good opacity for its weight and for the less-structured garments it’s intended for, a lining won’t be required. If you were making a hoodie for instance, then you could use a single-knit cotton jersey (try our ‘Flow’ organic muted blue cotton jersey fabric) as a hood or body lining in order to add still more warmth and cosiness.
What can I make with this fabric?
Tops, tunics and simple t-shirt dresses are all options for this purple floral loop-back viscose jersey fabric. You’ll want to find a pattern intended for a knit fabric; garments with more draping designs will work particularly well, as will those which incorporate elements of ruching and negative ease. Although there are plenty of dressier options for this fabulously-soft fabric, if you’re looking for a classic hoodie pattern then the ‘Fitzroy’ Hoodie from Style Arc is a great place to start. It’s easy to add in your choice of linings as you go.
