Welcome to yet another manifestation of a cellulose fibre – modal. A fine, more durable and even smoother version of viscose, it’s been used here to create an amazing jersey knit with the most elegant of drapes and the potential to transform your lingerie and loungewear. The shade of khaki here is very definitely a green, but it’s beautifully soft and muted; almost but not quite a pastel.
What kind of fabric is this?
This is a finely-knitted lighter-weight jersey fabric made from modal yarns, blended with a little polyester. Modal is a cellulose-derived yarn used to create knitted fabrics that are notable for their comfort and durability.
What does this fabric feel like?
As you’d expect from a modal jersey fabric, this is a fabric with a very refined, smooth handle. It will be supremely comfortable to wear next to the skin and it’s breatheable too.
How does this fabric move?
Our soft khaki modal jersey fabric is very much a draping knit with a fluid movement. It has approximately 25% stretch across its width and down the length of the fabric. The stretch is derived from the knit structure rather than elastane but it’s firm and returns well. You can see how it moves and stretches in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
You won’t need to line a shirt, top or tunic made from our khaki modal jersey fabric, however smoother undergarments are preferable since this is a finely-knitted jersey.
What can I make with this fabric?
Tops, tunics and draping, relaxed t-shirts as well as lingerie are all options for our khaki modal jersey fabric. Although it could be used for a simple draped or slip dress, this is a fine jersey knit which we think is more suited to tops rather than more substantial garments. You’ll need to find a pattern intended for a knit fabric; garments with simple silhouettes and more draping designs will work particularly well, as will those which incorporate elements of ruching and negative ease. The ‘Isla’ Top from Tessuti would be a relaxed way of using this jersey as loungewear or as a base layer in colder weather.
