This is another of our ‘wonder-knits’ which spring to life once you see them large and at a couple of steps back. Our black and soft taupe animal-printed viscose jersey fabric is bang on-trend with its mottled and softly-shaded print which incorporates elements of leopard, tiger and (we think) a hint of snake.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our black and taupe animal-printed viscose jersey fabric is a draping single-knit cloth. We’d describe it as sitting towards the lighter-weight end of the medium-weight single knit bracket. It’s the kind of fabric that’s difficult to gauge from a snippet, but once you have a metre or two in your hand, you can feel that it has substance and character.
What does this fabric feel like?
As you’d expect from a viscose jersey fabric, this is a fabric with a very soft, smooth handle. It will be comfortable to wear next to the skin and it’s breatheable too.
How does this fabric move?
Our black and taupe viscose jersey fabric is very much a draping knit with a fluid movement. It has approximately 50% stretch across its width and rather less than that down the length of the fabric. You can see how it moves and stretches in this video.
Will I need to line this fabric?
You won’t need to line a shirt, top or tunic made from this fabric, however a dress may require a bodice lining for structure depending on your pattern design. Unless you’re wearing it over bare legs, then you’ll need a half-slip to enable this fabric to move against your body.
What can I make with this fabric?
Tops, tunics and dresses are all options for this edgy black and taupe animal-printed viscose jersey fabric. You’ll need to find a pattern intended for a knit fabric; garments with more draping designs will work particularly well, as will those which incorporate elements of ruching and negative ease. All of which the ‘Issy’ Top from Style Arc has in spades – we think it’s the perfect pattern for this dating jersey.
