We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – we adore these versatile, easy-to-work-with, easy-to-wear stretch sateen fabrics. This vibrant painted stretch cotton sateen fabric has arrived in time for the long-awaited warmer weather and we think it will be the perfect choice for summer.
We’d say that this hot pink, gold and purple stretch cotton sateen fabric lay towards the lighter-weight end of the medium-weight cotton sateen bracket. It is finely woven, extremely well-behaved and easy-to-work – not at all bulky. Despite that, it has excellent opacity for its weight and colour. It has great stability and structure – this is a crisp fabric that can pleat and hold a shape well as you can see from this video.
Our painted stretch cotton sateen fabric has the look of a painting left out in the rain – or perhaps a blurred ikat fabric. Whatever it signifies in your mind’s eye, it’s a fabric that will stand on its own as a dress or a tunic. It also looks fabulous with any of the colours that make up its print.
Alternatively you could wear it as a fitted top over blue or white denim – or as a pencil skirt or a pair of summer crops topped off by a crisp white shirt.
We think the weight of this fabric plus the gentle ease across its width would make it perfect for a fitted dress such as Pattern 6567 from New Look
This pattern has a variety of classic necklines and sleeves to choose from whilst the princess seams in the design will make it a dream to fit well, aided by that touch of spandex across the width of this painted stretch cotton sateen fabric.
