We think of our cotton shirtings as summer essentials. We love the way that these formal fabrics can be undermined with a little creative cutting. Above all, they bring a sense of cool freshness to a warmer-weather wardrobe.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our pale blue striped cotton shirting fabric is a classic 100% cotton shirting. It’s a lighter-weight shirting where thin grey and broader blue stripes are woven through a soft white cotton.
What does this fabric feel like?
This fabric has a soft, smooth and cool handle. Although there’s some crispness in the way it feels, it’s very soft and not at all stiff.
How does this fabric move?
Despite its wafting, softly-falling drape, our pale blue striped shirting fabric is also a fabric with just a little shape-holding capacity and crispness. You can see how it moves and falls in this video.
Will I need to line this fabric?
This pale blue striped shirting fabric is a lighter-weight cotton with the thickness of a cotton lawn. As a blouse, top or shirt, it won’t require lining although you’ll want to pay attention to the colour of your undergarments as colours contrasting with your skin tone are likely to be visible.
As a dress, we’d suggest a lining or at least a half-slip would be necessary.
What can I make with this fabric?
Shirts and tops are going to be very much the forte of this blue striped cotton shirting fabric. You can choose a more classic design or opt for a design that contrasts with the style of the fabric. We thought the ‘Sadie’ Tunic from Style Arc was a good illustration of a different style of top that would work beautifully with this lightweight striped cotton.
