We’re delighted to have sourced a supply of jersey knit fabrics that are not only produced sustainably, but which are manufactured in the UK. In our opinion this isn’t quite a khaki colour – there’s not enough yellow in it for that. We’ve termed it a ‘grey-green’ but it’s not just the subtlety of the colour that struck us, but also the quality of this stunning jersey.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our grey-green viscose jersey is a stunning single-knit with 6% spandex. We’d describe it as sitting firmly in the medium-weight single knit bracket. It’s the kind of fabric that’s difficult to gauge from a snippet, but once you have a metre or two in your hand, you can feel that it has substance and character.
What does this fabric feel like?
We always expect our viscose jersey fabrics to be smooth and gentle to the touch, however this grey-green viscose jersey fabric feels supremely soft and luxurious. It will be fabulously comfortable to wear next to the skin and it’s breatheable too.
How does this fabric move?
Our grey-green viscose jersey fabric is very much a draping knit with a fluid movement. It has approximately 40% stretch across its width as well as down the length of the fabric. You can see how it moves and stretches in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
You won’t need to line a shirt, top or tunic made from this fabric, however a dress may require a bodice lining for structure depending on your pattern design. Unless you’re wearing it over bare legs, then you’ll need a half-slip to enable this fabric to move against your body.
What can I make with this fabric?
Tops, tunics and dresses are all options for this grey-green viscose jersey fabric. You’ll need to find a pattern intended for a knit fabric; garments with more draping designs will work particularly well, as will those which incorporate elements of ruching and negative ease.
This classic ‘Olivia’ Wrap Dress from Named Clothing would be a way of making an elegant statement with this delightfully soft and understated fabric.
