It is our declared mission this season to bring you as many ‘ponte with a difference’ fabrics as we can unearth. We love it when manufacturers play with such a versatile fabric to produce something unexpected. This mocha jaquard ponte Roma jersey fabric is a case in point – we think it’s quite special. Strictly speaking a jacquard is a woven fabric; this is obviously a knit and we’ve used the term to reflect the style of this fabulous fabric.
The mocha-coloured floral design in this fabric is knitted in a diagonally-twining pattern which looks particularly elegant when worn, as you can see from our draped image. Although we’d describe this jacquard ponte Roma jersey fabric as a fairly substantial doubleknit, it’s finely-woven with a lovely drape as you can see from this video.
Its movement means it’s perfectly suited to outer layers of garments, although with more than 40% stretch capacity and very good opacity, it would also work well as a more fitted garment. That stretch arises from the structure rather than any spandex in the composition; with a high viscose content this is a soft, pliable fabric. The doubleknit structure means that the pattern is applied only to the outer surface of the fabric, meaning that this isn’t a two-sided fabric. Waterfall-style jacket fronts aren’t an option; similarly jackets or coatigans will need wither to be faced, lined or both.
Our mocha jacquard ponte Roma jersey fabric would be perfect as a fitted dress, top or skirt; simple patterns and shapes would bring you instant and easy style. If you’re looking to wrap up however, then a pattern such as the ‘Riley’ Coat from Style Arc, might be one to consider. Although unlined, it incorporates a facing on the centre front panels.
It’s a near-perfect match for our ‘Streatfeild’ draping mocha triple crepe fabric, should you be seeking an accompaniment. For more inspiration, drop in on our Coatigans Pinterest board.
