We’ve been bereft over the last couple of months since we sold the last of our navy wool worsted fabric. We regard a good quality navy blue wool suiting as a ‘staple’ and we’ve struggled to find a replacement worthy of its predecessor. In this deep navy blue wool venetian fabric however, we’re convinced we have the real deal.
This is a 100% wool British cloth, slightly heavier than our previous navy wool suiting but a superb fabric, perfect for the winter months. A wool ‘venetian’ is not a fabric that’s been produced in Italy although the distinctive finely-woven satin finish is thought to have originated there.
Often used for coats but equally fabulous as a suiting fabric, we’d describe our deep navy blue wool venetian fabric as a lighter medium-weight coating or a heavier-weight suiting. It has a refined handle and a subtle sheen on the right side of the fabric. As you can see from this video it drapes beautifully and hangs with elegance.
We think our deep navy blue wool venetian fabric is a tremendously versatile fabric. Skirts, coats, tailored jackets or formal winter dresses would all be options. Trousers too would be rather wonderful, although they’d definitely be warm and in this fabric would suit a more tailored, perhaps cropped style.
We love the simple elegance of the ‘Leonard’ coat from Republique du Chiffon. The classic collar, slightly cocoon cut and three quarter sleeves make this a garment that would work for evening wear just as well as daywear.
Finally if you’re looking for a classic lining worthy of this fabric, you may want to consider our Rich navy blue viscose satin lining fabric.
