There are times when a fabric needs to punch above its weight. Make a statement; catch the eye. This deepest blue, purple and cerise printed satin fabric does that in spades we think.
This is an Italian fabric of quite exceptional quality. It’s a lightweight satin; very finely-woven with a beautifully soft, yet very fresh, almost crisp handle. Rather than collapsing in on itself it drapes into soft folds and has a lovely movement as you can see from this video.
We’d almost go so far as to say that this purple and cerise printed satin fabric was a semi-sheer satin – but not quite. For evening wear we’d simply suggest that attention should be paid to undergarments; unless you want to make a statement (in which case be proud!) then dark undergarments will work the best under this satin. For daywear we’d suggest that while a blouse or top might work well as a single layer, we’d suggest a slip or a camisole might be the way to go. We think our purple and cerise printed satin fabric would make a lovely top, blouse, tunic or dress – although the latter would have to be either lined or have an under-layer to allow this exceptional satin fabric to move and to provide some opacity. Lingerie of course, would be quite lovely and very special in this exquisite satin.
For the record, we’re particularly fond of this fabric with our ‘Rhododendron’ shot cerise silk fabric as well as our Darkly-draping purple silk-mix voile fabric, both of which would work fabulously as an under-layer to a top or tunic.
We think it would work well with a simple draping garment such as the Angel Sleeve Top from Salme Patterns.
It’s a design which should use the elegant draping qualities of this fabric particularly well, working as a daytime as well as an evening garment.
We suggest hand-washing this finely-woven fabric in order to avoid damaging it in a machine. See our Fabric care pages for more information.
