Throughout a chilly spring we’ve been craving the warmth of summer sunshine and kind breezes. Now they’re finally here we’re all looking for ways of keeping our cool. Such is life in the British climate (but we love it really 😉 This soft green floral viscose challis fabric is garlanded with vibrant gold, turquoise and ivory flowers which ripple in their movement just as this lighter-weight dress fabric does in real life. We’re thinking soft gathers and easy summer style with tops, tunics and loose, voluminous dresses.
What kind of fabric is this?
This is is a lighter weight viscose fabric, woven in a plain weave pattern. The composition and weight make it the perfect choice for warmer weather garments.
What does this fabric feel like?
Our soft green floral viscose challis fabric has a particularly soft, smooth handle. It will be cool and very comfortable next to the skin.
How does this fabric move?
This is a very draping fabric with an extremely soft and very smooth handle. It has little in the way of shape-holding structure, however as you can see from the video, it has a little bounce, a lively swing with gentle energy and falls decisively too.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
The weave of this fabric is plain and fairly close, with good opacity for its weight due to the colour and print design. You’ll be fine with an unlined blouse or tunic. However a silhouette will be visible against the sun and so depending the design of a dress or skirt, a plain cotton lawn lining or a half-slip may be necessary for modesty as well as for additional substance and shape. However voluminous and gathered dress designs may reduce the need to worry about this depending on how relaxed you are about such things.
What can I make with this fabric?
We think our soft green floral viscose challis fabric will be perfect for summer tops and blouses as well as more casual warmer-weather dresses and tunics. The delicate gathers and volume in a romantic top pattern like the ‘Sagebrush Top’ from the Friday Pattern Company would make lovely use of the drape and print of this summery fabric.
