Fancy a statement? Let us introduce you to this fabulous black and raspberry pink checked viscose twill fabric. We think it would be fabulous if you’re in the market for a casual shirt to lift your looks and your spirits. If you’re *really* up for something eye-catching then we should mention that this is the perfect match for our new ‘Opéra’ raspberry pink wool suiting fabric – top off a pair of rippling wool trousers with a shirt in this check and that’s a look we could definitely get behind.
What kind of fabric is this?
This is is a finely-woven, lighter-to-medium-weight viscose twill fabric. Viscose twill fabrics are notable for their soft handle and beautiful drape as well as their characteristic diagonal weave – and that’s precisely what we have here. The depth of colour is stunning, and the perfect contrast to the black checks which alternate from shadowed horizontal and vertical lines, to solid black squares where they intersect. The checks are 7.8mm wide and 7.6mm long – not quite squares.
What does this fabric feel like?
Our vibrant pink checked viscose twill fabric has a particularly soft and gentle handle. It will be cool and very comfortable next to the skin and since viscose is a cellulose-based fibre, it will be breathable too.
How does this fabric move?
As with most viscose fabrics, this is a cloth that loves to flow and ripple. You can see how our pink checked viscose twill fabric moves and drapes in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
Given the excellent opacity of this fabric for its weight, you’ll be just fine with an unlined blouse or tunic and for less formal, more carefree occasions an unlined dress or skirt in this fabric will be perfectly acceptable, especially more voluminous or draped designs. However a silhouette may be visible against bright lights and so depending the design of a dress or skirt, a plain cotton lawn lining or a half-slip might be advisable if that’s something that might concern you.
What can I make with this fabric?
We think our rippling pink checked viscose twill fabric will be perfect for tops, shirts, tunics and dresses too. Relaxed and draping patterns; gathers and ruffles too, will make the most of its drape; this isn’t a fabric to use in a structured garment. We’re loving the ‘Naomi’ Shirt from Coffee & Thread – these checks are an opportunity to play with the directionality of the woven pattern, contrasting the main body of the short with the yoke and sleeves.
