Even though we only have a very small amount to offer, we couldn’t resist snapping up this richly striped ribbed wool knit fabric. If you’re someone who loves the texture of hand-knitted garments but who has neither the patience nor the skill to create them from scratch, this is the perfect fabric for you. It’s come to us from an exclusive French design source and is set to light up our winter and keep us warm as toast.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our striped ribbed wool knit fabric is 100% wool. It’s knitted in a rib pattern (1 purl, 1 plain, for those of you who know their knitting!), with the ribs running down the length of the fabric and the stripes widthwise.
What does this fabric feel like?
This is a woolly jumper in fabric form. Soft (not scratchy!) and lovely next to the skin.
How does this fabric move?
Our striped ribbed knit fabric drapes, wraps and falls as you’d hope. It has about 50% stretch-and-gentle-return across its width and about 10% ease down its length. You can see how it moves and stretches in this video.

Will I need to line this fabric?
You wouldn’t line this knit – – just use for layering as you would any knitted jumper. It has good opacity for its weight when not stretched to its maximum, so there are no modesty issues here.
What can I make with this fabric?
This fabulous striped ribbed knit fabric can be used for any manner of jumpers, cardigans, wraps and even knitted tunics and dresses. We were going to offer it as a ‘Toaster’ Sweater Kit option, but our supplier hasn’t been able to ship printed patterns.
