Welcome to the ClothSpot Shirt Dress! In need of an elegant, easy-to-fit dress that does stylish service as a top, tunic or dress? We certainly were – so we went hunting and found this elegantly-pleated shirt dress design for our latest kit.
We had such a fabulous response to our Shirt Dress Kit in its earlier incarnation as our Summer Shirt Dress, so we tried it out in our range of ‘Classic Capsule’ fabrics. The result was a dress that can be worn over tights, leggings or jeans, over a t-shirt or not. In short, a wonderfully-versatile garment that’s practical and timeless in its style.
The kit contains everything you need to make one dress – but don’t forget you can re-use your pattern. We have!
If you’ve already bought the kit but fancy a version in another fabric, then select the ‘I’ve got the pattern already’ option and you’ll get everything you need to make another shirt dress but without purchasing a duplicate pattern.
About our Shirt Dress pattern
The pattern we’ve selected is the ‘Autumn’ Dress from Style Arc. We thought this design would be a good choice for less-experienced sewers. It’s easy to fit and elegant to wear. Don’t be put off by its name! We’ve tried it out in a range of fabrics and we think it’s a great design that works fabulously across all seasons, depending on the fabric you use.
This pattern has no buttons or buttonholes – and even if you decide to add sleeves using our pattern hack (details in our Sew-along), they’re very easy indeed to create. There’ll be enough fabric in your kit to create the sleeves without adding any extra – the Sew-along explains how to lay out your pattern pieces to make space for them.
If you haven’t sewn a collar before then don’t worry! This is a great place to start and our Sew-along will give you a step-by-step guide.
You can find out more about Alice’s make of this pattern in her Summer Shirt Dress blog post – with more pictures too.

Join our Shirt Dress Sew-along!
One of our customers suggested that a Sew-along would be a great way of helping people make up their kits. We though that was a great idea – so that’s what did! Choosing and fitting your size
We’ve selected this pattern partly because there’s such a wide selection of sizes, up to a 58″ bust. Pattern measurement and size information is listed below.
We’ve tested the pattern in two sizes and found that if you select your size according to your measurements it fits well. The critical measurement for fitting is the Bust measurement. If you’re between sizes at the Bust, then we suggest you go up a size not down, otherwise the back pleat will be pulled out of shape.
If you’re in any doubt about which size to select then drop us a line – or make up a ‘toile’ or trial version in a piece of old fabric first.
**IMPORTANT! Please check the actual measurements below when choosing your pattern size. The sizes below are provided in inches; more pattern information is available on the Style Arc website.
