As you might imagine when this cotton lawn appeared our eyes lit up and our thoughts turned to summer. Some fabrics might work across seasons – but this one is just spot-on for a day at the seaside. We’re eyeing up patterns where we can run these narrow, slightly off-centred stripes in different directions to emphasise the structure of a garment – and the gentle crispness of this lawn would be perfect for creating a little sleeve volume.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our beach-ready pink striped fabric is a lighter-weight, closely-woven cotton lawn. It has very good opacity for its weight due to the close weave as well as the colour and design of the print pattern.
What does this fabric feel like?
This fabric has a soft, smooth and cool handle. It feels very fine yet it’s robust, stable and very easy to work with.
How does this fabric move?
The movement of this pink striped cotton lawn fabric is a soft, floating drape which will catch a breeze with elegance, as you can see from this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
The comparative opacity of this pink striped cotton lawn fabric will be just fine for an unlined shirt, top or tunic. A fitted bodice would require lining for strength and structure but a skirt or bottom half of a summer dress would be just fine in a single layer over bare legs, although a silhouette will be visible against the sun.
What can I make with this fabric?
We think this fabric is perfect for cool, floating summery tops and blouses. Dresses too would be fabulous options – classic strapped sun-dresses or perhaps designs which made the most of its lighter weight, with softly-gathered skirts. We do think that this would be a lovely fabric for a summer version of the ‘Naomi’ Shirt from Coffee and Thread, since there’s the opportunity to emphasise the interesting construction by running stripes in different directions.
