Classic fabrics are often understated – they don’t shout but they are fabulous to work with and wear. Those in the know will appreciate a cloth like that for what it is – and that’s very much the case for this beautifully-draping black stretch wool suiting fabric.
This UK-produced cloth has come to us from a high-end retail production known for their quality. It’s a lighter-weight twill-woven suiting fabric with a wonderful drape and about 5% stretch across the width; just enough for ease of fitting but not so much as to lose its shape. It has a fine weave and a refined finish with excellent opacity for its weight. You can see how it swings, folds and stretches in this video.
Our stretch black wool suiting fabric is the perfect choice for cross-season tailoring – or simply if you prefer jackets, trousers and skirts that have a more relaxed, less structured feel. Although this is very definitely a lighter-weight suiting fabric it’s a very stable fabric and straight-forward to work with. It’s the kind of fabric that will elevate a simple pattern to a new level – and if you do have the skills to introduce tailored elements then your garments will have a real touch of class.
Relaxed blazers are very much on trend at the moment and we’ve been getting super feedback from customers using Kwik Sew pattern 3715
We think it’s a fair bet that a blazer in this delightful stretch black wool suiting fabric would prove to be a wardrobe staple; you’d be fishing it out for years to come . As far as trousers and skirts are concerned, this is a fabric that will suit more fitted designs just as much as it will those with more movement although highly-structured designs are probably not its forte. You might also want to consider this stretch black wool suiting fabric as a candidate for tunics, dresses and even shirts, such is its level of drape and ease of wear, even next to the body.

We recommend dry-cleaning this fabric to preserve its fit, finish and texture, particularly for lined garments. See our Fabric care pages for more information.
