Our softly-draping deep burgundy crepe fabric is a thoroughly classy cloth; the latest addition to our range of colourways of a particularly lovely crepe. In a rich shade of dark, not-quite-purple wine, this is a colour with which you can contrast with rusts, ochres and chartreuse greens or freshen up with crisp whites and ivories. It’s ready to take centre stage in your wardrobe as a perennial classic in its own right or as the perfect complement to toning prints and textures.
What kind of fabric is this?
Although a much less substantial fabric than our triple crepes, this burgundy crepe fabric has the slightly-textured handle you’d expect from a crepe fabric. It’s a lighter-weight but nonetheless highly versatile and practical fabric. We’d describe it as a medium-weight dress fabric.
What does this fabric feel like?
Although it has the classic slightly-textured crepe feel that you’d expect, the overall impression of this fabric is of a very smooth, cool and elegant cloth.
How does this fabric move?
Our deep burgundy crepe fabric is a very fluid, rippling fabric that falls into heaps of rounded folds. However it has some substance and swings with great liveliness as you can see from this video of a previous colourway of the same fabric.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
This is a very closely-woven crepe fabric which therefore has very good opacity for its weight. Although you might consider a slip or a lining for movement against hosiery or for structure – you wouldn’t require it for purposes of modesty. It’s very smooth and comfortable next to the skin.
What can I make with this fabric?
Trousers, dresses, skirts and tops are all options for this most versatile of fabrics. However we’ve lately fallen in love with jumpsuits as you’ll know from recent blog posts. We’d definitely consider this burgundy crepe fabric as a candidate for a pattern such as the ‘Carly’ Jumpsuit from Style Arc. We think the drape of this fabric is perfect for it – light enough for cross-season wear and classy enough to take you through to the evening, too.

You can see other jumpsuit pattern options on our Jumpsuit Sewing Patterns Pinterest Board. Whatever your taste however, this is a fabric that would stand you in good stead season after season – one worth adding to your stash even if you’re not quite sure what you might do with it right away (if we may be so bold).
